Waffle Day is August 24.

Posted on: Aug 2, 2021

Waffle Day actually began in Scandinavia, but no one knows exactly when the day began, as waffles have been around in Sweden since at least the 1600s.

The word Waffle Day began as Våffeldagen, which due to a confusion between, ‘Våffeldagen’ (waffle), and ‘Vårfrudagen’, which means ‘Our Lady’s Day’, a religious holiday. Over time the pronunciation for the religious celebration and the word for waffles blurred together, and eating waffles became a natural  thing to eat on the celebration day.

Waffle Day in Scandinavia is March 25th.

In America, Waffle Day is celebrated on August 24th, on the anniversary of the patenting of the first US waffle iron in 1869.

Waffles are popular throughout the world, and obviously so popular, they merit two days of celebration!
